Hyper attacks will be more effective when ally morale is high. Here is a list of changes that have occurred in Samurai Warriors 4-II: Furthermore, the combat totally delivers and from all the Musou games I have played, this game hands-down as the best combat. There are about 15 new campaigns and the story isn't as grand as the original Samurai Warriors 4, but it is definitely a lot more personal. It can easily be comparable to one of the Xtreme Legends titles, but unlike the previous Xtreme Legends versions, your progression from the base game is not carried over, so everything you did in Samurai Warriors 4 simply doesn't carry over which is one of my biggest gripes. I also have Samurai Warriors 4-II, and this title is a bit confusing. The combat is also a lot better than Dynasty Warriors 8. One of my favorite things is the mission alerts which make each battle engaging and a bit exciting. I am a huge Dynasty Warriors fan obviously, but there is no denying that Samurai Warriors 4 just does a few things better than Dynasty Warriors 8. So I currently have Samurai Warriors 4 which is one of my favorite Musou games ever. TL DR: The original Samurai Warriors 4 is the ideal place to start. The game has a lot of walking around little town areas talking to NPC's and doing little side quests in addition to the main story battles. I think its still possible to play all of SW4's other characters in side missions or something. I don't know if this makes it more enjoyable or less, but I'd probably prefer the ensemble story from SW4 myself.Īs for Spirit of the Sanada, I understand its much more of a story focused game that follows the Sanada clan and the main playable characters within that clan. Your officers will interact with each other in little cutscenes in between battles, where they will make friends with each other, become rivals or even get married.Įmpires is a cool spin-off, but you'll probably enjoy it more if you've already played through SW4 first.įrom what I know of SW4-II, its mostly the same as the original SW4, except that each clan's story is viewed from the perspective of a single character, while the original was more of an ensemble story for each clan. SW4 Empires plays more or less like all the other Empires games (run around a battlefield capturing enemy bases while defending your own, recruit enemy officers you've captured to join your own clan), except you can build a castle for your clan and place your officers around it, who will then offer you policies for building your kingdom and army.

Like I said, I really got into the story in this one. The story is very well told for each of the clans, the visuals are bright, colourful and bold and the gameplay feels faster and smoother than the other Warriors games. Its probably my favourite Musou game on the PS4, better even than Dynasty Warriors 8, which I also really liked. The original SW4 is great, and I loved my time with it last year. I've only played the vanilla Samurai Warriors 4 and Empires, so I can't speak for the other two you mentioned.
